How to make a papasan chair cushion?
Making a papasan chair cushion can be a fun and rewarding DIY project. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you create a comfortable and stylish cushion for your papasan chair:
Materials Needed:
- Fabric (about 4-6 yards, depending on the size of your papasan chair and the width of the fabric)
- High-density foam or batting (thick enough to provide adequate cushioning)
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Pins
- Measuring tape
- Fabric chalk or a fabric marker
- Zipper or buttons (optional, for a removable cover)
Steps:
1. Measure the Chair
Measure the diameter of your papasan chair. Most papasan chairs have a diameter of around 45-48 inches, but it’s essential to get an accurate measurement for a perfect fit.
2. Cut the Fabric
- Fold the fabric in half and mark a semicircle using your fabric chalk or marker. The radius of the semicircle should be half of the chair's diameter plus an additional 2 inches for seam allowance and extra fluffiness.
- Cut out the semicircle. You should have a large circle when you unfold the fabric.
- Repeat this step so you have two large fabric circles.
3. Prepare the Cushion Filling
- Cut the foam or batting into circles slightly smaller than your fabric circles. You can layer the batting to achieve the desired thickness. If using foam, consider using a high-density foam for better support and longevity.
4. Sew the Cushion Cover
- Place the two fabric circles together with the right sides facing each other.
- Pin the edges together, leaving a gap of about 18 inches for inserting the foam or batting.
- Sew around the edges of the circles with a 1-inch seam allowance, except for the gap you left.
- Turn the fabric right side out through the gap.
5. Insert the Cushion Filling
- Stuff the fabric cover with the foam or layers of batting through the gap. Make sure the filling is evenly distributed.
- Once the filling is inside, hand-sew the gap closed using a slip stitch for a clean finish. If you opted for a removable cover, sew a zipper or buttons along the gap before inserting the filling.
